Microsoft Publisher is a popular application for creating graphics-enhanced marketing materials, such as print layouts. It is designed to help people with their desktop publish efforts, especially those with little to no graphic design experience. It is very competitive amongst other desktop publishing programs for this reason.
Between its advanced editing tools and simplicity to use, Microsoft Publisher Pro allows users to efficiently convey their message by developing attractive and professional greeting cards, business cards, brochures, calendars, labels, flyers, newsletters, postcards, and so on.
There are several design templates included with the software which you're free to modify to your liking. Just change the templates to feature your own brand elements, color schemes, fonts, background, shapes, tables, text boxes, pictures, and so on. You'll find plenty of images and clip art included with MS Publisher. If you need more images and clip art, you can download them through the online resources feature.
There is a section labeled 'Building Blocks' which features many options for creating various types of publications, including borders, calendars, stories, quotes, sidebars, headings, and advertisements.
Microsoft Publisher lets you modify and add business information anywhere with one click. Other great features of this software include text styling tools, text editing tools, mail merge, photo editing tools, and layout alignment settings.
The tool called 'Design Checker' can scan for problems in your material before you go to print or save it. In addition, you can see an HTML preview of the publication and save it to print from a commercial printer.
If you're experienced using any other Office programs like Microsoft Word, then you shouldn't have a problem using Microsoft Publisher. The ribbon interface and the simple work environment allow you to be very productive.
In the Microsoft Office suite, you'll see the Publisher in there too. It gives you lots of helpful tools which allow you to design publications effortlessly that are quite attractive.

Microsoft Publisher is a desktop publishing application from Microsoft, differing from Microsoft Word in that the emphasis is placed on page layout and design rather than text composition and proofing.

Overview[edit]

Publisher is included in higher-end editions of Microsoft Office, reflecting Microsoft's emphasis on the application as an easy-to-use and less expensive alternative to the 'heavyweights' with a focus on the small-business market, where firms do not have dedicated design professionals available to make marketing materials and other documents.[3][4] However, it has a relatively small share of the desktop publishing market, which is dominated by Adobe InDesign and formerly by QuarkXPress.[3]

While most Microsoft Office apps adopted ribbons for their user interface starting with Microsoft Office 2007, Publisher retained its toolbars and did not adopt ribbons until Microsoft Office 2010.[5]

Compatibility[edit]

LibreOffice has supported Publisher's proprietary file format (.pub) since February 2013.[6]Corel Draw X4 features read-only support.

Publisher supports numerous other file formats, including the Enhanced Metafile (EMF) format, which is supported on Windows platforms. The Microsoft Publisher trial version can be used to view .pub files beyond the trial period.[7][8]

Adobe PageMaker also saved files with a .pub extension, but the two file formats were unrelated and incompatible.
